hi, i’m emily!

I’m a second-generation Chinese American writer, educator, and learning experience designer from San Diego, trained and grounded in the humanities. I studied Classical Civilization, English, and Cognitive Science at UCLA (’21) before receiving a Fulbright Grant to teach English in Taiwan.

After two years teaching in Taiwan — one year in elementary and junior high schools in Yilan County, and one year at National Central University in Taoyuan — I returned home to California to earn my Master’s degree in Learning Design and Technology (’24) at the Stanford Graduate School of Education, where I explored new technological horizons and how they enhance and interweave with education.

As a learning scientist, I’m passionate about designing joyful, colorful, and human-centered learning experiences that trust in users and celebrate their creativity. I find myself invigorated in ideating for both formal and informal learning spaces, where I incorporate, among other things, concepts of storytelling, creativity, metacognition, and wellness. Ultimately, I hope to help bring a love of lifelong learning to others.
